Lisa M. Lovallo: Vice President & Systems Manager, Cox Communications Southern Arizona

What’s new in your industry?

The digital communications industry, like many technology-based sectors, is constantly changing. As a national video, internet and telephone service provider, we must constantly evolve our product set in new and bold ways. For example, Cox has recently launched home security 2.0 in Tucson – a solid example of using our infrastructure in new ways to keep pace with our tech-savvy customers. Our home-security product marries our superior technology with the trust our customers have in our reliability and service.

Why does your company support economic development?

It’s quite simple really. Cox supports economic development because it brings prosperity. The foundation of prosperity is high-skilled/high-wage jobs. Upon that foundation of jobs is a robust consumer base that purchases the products and services Cox offers. Economic development attacks poverty at its root and acts like a positive immunization for the community’s overall health and well-being.

What is your company/industry doing to make Tucson a better place to live?

Cox is a leader in developing and enhancing the infrastructure for all of Southern Arizona. Our fiber-optic network and world-class technology products are critical to Tucson’s long-term competitive position. We are constantly investing and re-investing in our schools and institutions so that Tucson is able to compete on a regional, national and international level. Cox is here in Southern Arizona for the long term and our massive capital investments speak to our commitment today and well into the future.

What are key issues this region needs to address and how can they be supported?

We believe that

the TREO Economic Blueprint is the definitive synopsis of Southern Arizona’s key issues:

  • Development of high-skilled/ high-wage jobs
  • Development of the urban core
  • Enhancement of education
  • Support of governmental stewardship
  • Enhancement of livable communities

We support organizations, nonprofits, businesses, and government institutions that support these key categories.

What is your personal passion as it relates to our economy and Tucson’s future?

Like so many of our employees, Tucson has always been my home. As such, my passion is to strategically apply all of Cox’s amazing resources to constantly improve and enhance my community. Whether it’s developing a high-skilled workforce, deploying state-of-the-art fiber optic infrastructure, or making large capital and community investments, Cox works at a hyper-local level to help solve our community’s most challenging issues.
